Macheis Wind, Jonathan Beedle, Starr Celeste, MSG Acoustic Blues Trio, Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards and Jonathan Byrd
Saturday, Sept. 28 at 12:30PM FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; BRING A CHAIR; BRING THE FAMILY This is an outdoor event, so, please, watch the weather and plan accordingly
Saturday afternoon’s events are free and open to the public and, again this year, offered as an RVCC Community Day. In addition to Concert on the Quad, there will be a drop-in Pickers Tent where local musicians are invited to play together and some organized activities for the kids. Food will be available for purchase throughout the afternoon and local craft vendors will be offering their wares. And, as part of Community Day, the Planetarium will offer free laser shows, the college art gallery will be open, and RVCC Cosmetology students will be giving free hand and arm massages.
12:30PM A set for the whole family MACHEIS WIND Macheis Wind is an award-winning musician, child advocate and author. His emotional energy and powerful original songs are unmistakable and his fiery virtuosity on guitar have enthralled audiences nationally and internationally. Macheis has spent more than two decades dedicated to bringing the healing power of music to children and adults in venues like domestic violence safe houses, homeless shelters, orphanages and a women’s prison.
JOHNATHAN BEEDLE For over 40 years, Jonathan Beedle has been a performing musician. As a songwriter, Jonathan’s inspiration comes from the artists he was drawn to growing up in Hellertown, Pennsylvania; The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Mike Nesmith, John Prine, Joni Mitchell and many others. His original CD “A Long Day Gone” is a record filled with rich heartfelt songs in the storytelling style he finds so compelling.
Jonathan’s voice was heard in the Season 1 finale of the HBO series Big Love, singing the Civil War-era classic, “Lorena”.
STARR CELESTE brands herself an indie/acoustic/singer-songwriter, working in the genres of folk, bues and jazz with elements of R&B thrown in. She loves to share with and support other local musicians wherever she goes, which, at this time, happens to be right here with us in central New Jersey.
MSG ACOUSTIC BLUES TRIO performs traditional Piedmont blues. Their style of music has been influenced by the likes of Archie Edwards, Etta Baker, and Cephas & Wiggins. This band can raise the roof with some old-fashioned house party tunes, make you laugh with their witty originals and then make you weep with blues ballads!
LAURA CORTESE & THE DANCE CARDS is a band that draws inspiration from diverse experiences, communities, and musical traditions, melding them into a refined sound that’s broad-minded but clear-eyed. It’s not a string-band, not a string quartet, not an a cappella group or indie band, but somehow all of those at once, all while staying firmly rooted in an identity as folk instrumentalists. It’s adventurous and complex music delivered with power and heart.
JONATHAN BYRD Jonathan Byrd is a preacher's son, a Gulf War veteran, and an award-winning songwriter from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, known for literary, outsider songs that have become Americana favorites. The Chicago Tribune called Byrd "one of the top 50 songwriters of the past 50 years."
