Concert on the Quad
Marc Silver, Jesse & Noah Bellamy, Jacob Vanko and MSG Acoustic Blues Trio
Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2PM
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; BRING A CHAIR; BRING THE FAMILY
What we all have been waiting for and what we are most excited to offer, an afternoon of great, free, original music on the RVCC Quad. The best thing about working with Mike Aiken on this festival is he has curated this stellar afternoon of entertainment for all of us! Bring your friends and family and enough lawn chairs for all. Four sets of great music, food, some vendors and a Pickers Tent where our local musicians can get their groove on all afternoon long.

MARC SILVER For Marc Silver, music and writing is intensely personal. He says, “when stories appear in my mind’s eye or in a dream, it is like a firefly inside a little glass jar. I hold the jar to my forehead and try to extract the story encoded in the flashes within… In some ways, a good day of writing can be as gratifying and meaningful to me as crafting a song, although reliving the emotions in each performance is the true blessing of songwriting.” Marc has traveled as a solo performer and with The Stonethrowers all over the East Coast. They have played prestigious venues like The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Café Lena, Club Passim, Godfrey Daniels, The Purple Fiddle, The World Café Live, The Kimmel Center, The Sherman Theater, Pickin’ In The Panhandle Bluegrass and BBQ festival (where they won the best new band contest in 2008), Musikfest and many more.

M.S.G. ACOUSTIC BLUES TRIO M.S.G. has been together for nearly fifteen years and has produced four CDs. Their latest effort, THE FLOOD made the first-round for the Grammy Nominations under the category of Best Traditional Blues Album. They are considered one of the top Piedmont acoustic blues (singer/songwriting) groups in the Mid-Atlantic Region. M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio has performed at the Chicago Blues Festival, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion. The trio has played and taught at the Folk Project Weekend in N.J. and was featured in a live video Horses Sing None of It!, sponsored by the Folk Project. They also have been honored to perform at the Annual John Cephas Piedmont Blues Festivals, paying homage to their late mentor.

JACOB VANKO Jacob was born and raised in the anthracite region of northeast Pennsylvania. The small towns in the once vibrant valley nestled in Pennsylvania’s slice of the Appalachian mountains was a compelling backdrop for the young artist’s narrative and observational style. Defiant in youth but an old soul at heart, the artist found his only sense of comfort in performing. Playing blues and folk with his father quickly evolved into writing, composition and story-telling. Touching on themes of blue-collar life, addiction, social injustice and family from first-hand experiences brings a distinct intimacy to the songs all audiences can relate to and appreciate.

JESSE & NOAH Originally from Darby, FL, Jesse Bellamy, lead vocalist, and Noah Bellamy, multi-instrumentalist and studio engineer, are currently living and working in Nashville, TN, writing their follow-up to the 2016 independent release Southern Usonia. The brothers share songwriting & arranging responsibilities. The forthcoming project will be their fifth full-length album.  With a sonic landscape as colorful as the American South it draws influence from, it's no surprise to learn that their musical pedigree points directly back to some of the pioneers of the genre.  The uniqueness of their perspective on the oft-misunderstood marriage between art & commercialism in the music industry is reflected in the key track This Town was Built on Heartbreak Songs, premiered last year by Rolling Stone Country. Jesse & Noah have remained true to their roots while continuing to evolve their own brand of southern contemporary rock. Let's just call it a not-so-secret family recipe.
